87 Jewish and pro-Israel organizations in the US sent a pressuring letter to the US Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona denouncing the recent endorsement of Middle East Studies Association MESA of an academic boycott of Israel over its continued illegal occupation of Palestinian territories and relentless violence against Palestinian citizens.
The letter intends to pressure the US government to stifle freedom of speech and academic freedom of professors and students alike from making a moral and ethical stands against Israeli military occupation and oppression of Palestinians. The danger of such efforts by the pro-Israeli groups is that it threatens and intimidate American colleges and professors from speaking the truth and teaching students the truth about Israel actions and behavior in the Middle East. The US constitution provides long-held and cherished protections of freedom of speech and the right of Americans to know the truth.
