In this announcement, United States President Joe Biden declares the establishment of April as Arab American Heritage Month. President Biden reminds his audience of the horrible prejudices endured by Arabs and Muslims in the US, despite the American legacy of hospitality toward immigrant communities. Biden distances himself from that racist legacy by reiterating how he ended the Trump-era Muslim ban immediately upon the commencement of his presidency. He ends his note with the reminder that the “United States is the only Nation in the world founded on an idea — the idea that we are all created equal and deserve to be treated equally throughout our lives. As a Nation, we have never fully lived up to that promise, but we have never walked away from it either. This Arab American Heritage Month, let us all strive to honor our fundamental values and advance equity and opportunity for all people, affirming once again that diversity is our country’s greatest strength.”
