Illinois Investment Policy Board which oversees state employee pension funds voted 7-0 to bar the state from holding shares in Unilever, the parent company of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream which banned the sale of its ice cream in the illegally built Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories. Illinois like many other US states bar the boycott of Israel. This despite the fact that neither Unilever nor Ben and Jerry’s ice-cream are boycotting Israel. Israeli settlements are illegal and were built on occupied Palestinian territories. To make such settlements as part of Israel is in of itself a violation of international law. The investment board of Illinois is making a big mistake let alone violates international law and supports the occupation and dehumanization of Palestinians. Source : Reuters
