The Ontario legislature tabled an important bill that would establish safeguards for the Canadian Muslim community in Ontario. The bill was named after the Afzaal family who were massacred by a white supremacist in June of 2021. Several Canadian Muslims were killed by racists and supremacists in the last year alone. The bill if passed would establish more tools to fight Islamophobia and racism especially in schools and around places of worship in the province of Ontario. It would also establish a “safe zone” around Muslim places of worship where white supremacist cannot hold protest or threaten worshipers. The bill is due to be debated on March 10.
