Jessie Sander, a Jewish teacher was fired from her teaching job because she criticized Israel and rejected Zionism. Sander was hired as a teacher at a Jewish school in Winchester County, New York, but when the leaders of the Synagogue discovered that she had criticized Israel and renounced Zionism in the past, she was fired. This case highlights the current atmosphere of fear that surrounds anyone who dare to criticize Israel. This is obviously not a case of “anti-Semitism” since Ms. Sander is Jewish, but to be punished for her political views is nothing short of acting as “thought police” and a violation of freedom of speech. Legitimate criticism of Israel is warranted. Israel is a political entity and as such is not above criticism. Read the story in full at the New York Times
