Judge Alexis Krot of Hamtramck, Michigan has apologized to 72-year old Muslim cancer patient Burhan Chowdhury after she berated and threatened him with jail time over some outgrown weeds outside his home. “I made a mistake,” Krot said in a statement shared with the Free Press by the court Thursday. “I acted intemperately. I’m very embarrassed that I did so. I apologize to the person who appeared before me and to our entire community for having failed to meet the high standards that we expect of our judicial officers, and that I expect of myself.”
Earlier this month judge Krot used a very harsh and threatening language against the elderly cancer patient that caused a wide media coverage and condemnation from across the country. A petition drive to remove her from the court has garnered more than 228,000 signatures as of Thursday evening on Change.org website. Read this story in the Detroit Free press here.
