A recent graduate from Stanford, Emily Wilder, was fired from the Associated Press after making social media posts in support of the Palestinian struggle while in college. Getting employed by AP raised the ire of groups like The Stanford College Republicans club, Fox News, the Washington Free Beacon, and The Federalist. The Stanford College Republicans highlighted her presence at a pro-Palestinian rally in New York in 2017, as well as her involvement in the Stanford club Students for Justice in Palestine. Associated Press should not have conceded to these far right groups by firing Wilder for posting her opinions on her own time. Wilder should be free to stand for oppressed people and to stand against racists and in support of human rights of Palestinians.
