The targeting of Muslim-American Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar by racist Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert was not an isolated case. In fact, when Boebert called Omar a member of “Jihad Squad” and a “Suicide bomber” among other racial slurs it was part of an ongoing political cultural of the current Republican Party. Polls have shown that republican voters have consistently approved and supported racism and bias against Muslim Americans. Significant numbers of republican voters, studies have shown, voted for candidates the likes of Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene who waged racist attacks against Muslim Americans. Such sentiments are ominous and dangerous. Under its current leadership which lends its both tacit and overt support for such candidates, the Republican Party is increasingly becoming the party of racists and bigots. If this malicious environment continues apace, all minority groups in the United States will find themselves in clear and mortal danger.
